Avast! there MSE

Microsoft Security Essentials has launched.

Microsoft Security Essentials

Anybody who runs Windows knows that ant-virus software is a necessity, rather than a luxury. Most people just renew their yearly subscription to whatever came pre-installed on their PC, never knowing that there are free alternatives.

For the last couple of years I’ve been running avast!, before that I was using AVG, either one will do a good job of keeping your PC protected from pirates.

Never much cared for any of the commercial offerings, they were either too intrusive or slowed my PC down to a crawl. The first thing I do when I get a new Windows PC is strip it of all the pre-installed crap that show up as icons in the notification area of the taskbar.

I went ahead and installed MSE on my laptop after reading all the good reviews coming from end users. It was scary to remove avast!, it has served me well, but MSE has a lower memory footprint and is lighter on resources. Booting up and shutting down is noticeably faster, as is doing daily tasks, it feels like I’m using no protection at all.
