Bin Laden's in Palm Springs

Bin Laden's in Palm Springs

The above cartoon is from a David Horsey article on May 25, 2012, entitled Karl Rove spends $10 million on a smart, mendacious attack ad. I laughed when I saw it back in May, then I came to the realization that it’s oh so maddeningly true. In the age of the Internet, I would think that people could easily get on their computers and research for themselves anything they might hear and question. But alas, we is a lazy bunch, so let me Google that for you.

The Republican Convention starts next week in Tampa, the Democratic Convention comes to my home town of Charlotte the following week. It’s going to be an interesting two weeks, full of pomp and circumstance, with very little substance. I don’t fault either political party, after all, half the populace has proven to have the attention span of a gnat.

Who will win the November election? It’s a toss up between the idealistic Democratic incumbent and the automaton Republican challenger. In an ideal world, we would have the likes of Ron Paul and Gary Johnson vying for our attention. In an ideal world, the corporations wouldn’t own the election process, our votes would count for something. In an ideal world, David Horsey and Jon Stewart would just be entertainment. But ours is the world of the 24 hour news cycle, I hear that Bin Laden is occupying the old Frank Sinatra compound.

Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you
If you’re young at heart
For it’s hard, you will find, to be narrow of mind
If you’re young at heart
