A new inhabitant visits the pond area.
The afternoon rain brought out an eastern box turtle from the woods. The most amazing thing happened when we picked him up, he recessed his head and legs, like turtles normally do, and then proceeded to shut his underside from the world.
The box turtle is one of the few species that can completely close their shell, I can see why they live to be 50 years old.
