Giga, it's Lenny

The server/workstation gets an upgrade.

Lenny

For the last 10 months, I’ve been running Debian Etch on Giga, but it was time to move on. There’s nothing wrong with Etch, as a matter of fact it’s the best choice for a pure server, but Giga is doing double duty as a workstation and I wanted to use newer versions of Amarok and K3B.

So it’s apt-get dist-upgrade, 500 megabytes downloaded from the repositories later and I’m running Lenny. I’ll continue running Lenny, aka “testing”, until it becomes the “stable” branch sometime in October of 2008, or whenever “it’s ready”.

Amarok is one of the nicest MP3 players on any operating system, leaves many in the dust, even iTunes. My music collection is now neatly cataloged in a MySQL database, it’s the quickest storage mechanism I’ve used.

K3B has yet to create a coaster from a CD or DVD burn, I can’t say the same thing for Nero on Windows. K3B has one main Kreator, Sebastian Trueg, a testament to the lone person with a vision.

So tell me why we got to die
And kill each other one by one
