They don’t seem to coexist very well.
When we cleaned out the pond in May, we made sure to put a layer of pebbles on all the lily pad planters. Obviously the layer wasn’t thick enough or the rocks weren’t big enough because our beautiful lily pads are being eaten from the roots up by the ever growing Kois. These things are always hungry, what are these guys smoking cause they seem to have a case of the munchies.
Sometime in the next few weeks I’m going to have to wade into the pond and bring out all the planters. I’ll see what lily pads I can save and replant them again, this time with a bit more gravel and rocks on the top layer.
Cheech: Dave! D-A-V-E! Will you open up the goddam door!
Chong: Dave?
Cheech: Yeah, Dave!
