Streaming movies and TV Shows is a breeze these days.
Netflix and similar streaming services have changed the way we consume entertainment. We no longer have to sit in front of the TV at a predetermined time and be forced to sit through commercials. Streaming gives us the freedom to watch our content anytime, anywhere and on anything.
Once Netflix was introduced into our household, it became a testing lab for determining the best setup for watching streaming content. The list of devices tested contains Smart TVs, Smart Blu-ray players, game consoles, Rokus, USB sticks, tablets and laptops.
The most bang for the buck has to go to the Sony PS3 in the living room. These old game consoles, that can be had on the used market for $150, offer the best streaming experience that I’ve tested. Couple it with an Android tablet as a Netflix remote, and you have a pretty powerful 1080p streamer. Added bonus, the PS3 is an amazing game console.
Most of the devices tested were at the mercy of their manufacturers to update the Netflix software, thus many Smart TVs and Blu-ray players suffer from old interfaces. That’s the danger of buying devices with built in apps that may never get updates. The PS3 on the other hand gets the latest software updates as does the Android tablet used as a remote.
Other than tuning in to the World Series, our living room TV is always on HDMI3.
