The Roosevelts, a 14 hour documentary by Ken Burns.
This week I spent my evenings watching The Roosevelts, what an amazing history lesson. From 1858 to 1962, the important events that shaped the United States and the world of today.
Every young person in this country should watch this documentary, it’s more informative than any history book of today. Rather than just laying out facts, what every textbook does, it interweaves the relationships that resulted in why.
Theodore, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt would of probably taken different paths in their lives had it not been for their relationships.
Cause and effect, so much more relevant to cover in this day and age. How and why is more interesting than just being given the what. We’re a much more intelligent society these days, we can handle it. How did we get here? Why did that happen?
Today, the Roosevelts would never have made it into office. Theodore would have been given Ritalin to calm his explosive demeanor, Franklin would of never been considered electable with Polio, and Eleanor would of been scrutinized for her close relationships with women.
What a shame, so many good Americans will never consider public office because of today’s paparazzi infused society. What a loss, cause and effect.
So long sad times, go long bad times
We are rid of you at last
Howdy gay times, cloudy gray times
You are now a thing of the past
