The Virtual Workforce

One of the many Open Source gifts to the masses.

The Cubicle

Working with people from all over the world has allowed me to fulfill the dream I had when I started in the IT business over 20 years ago. For the life of me, I could never figure out why I had to leave my comfy house to sit in front of a terminal all day long.

The proliferation of the Internet, helped in large part by freely available technologies, has spawned a workforce of millions, if not billions. With commodity hardware and pick your flavor Linux distribution, anyone, from any level of society, can join in the fun.

Inspiration can’t be turned on by a time clock and neither can it turn it off. Heck, I’ve had most of my WTF moments while sitting at night in front of the TV. In the past, any epiphany would just have to wait till I arrived at the cubicle in the morning, now I just strut over to my home office and work till the wee hours.

And if your train’s on time
You can get to work by nine
And start your slaving job to get your pay
If you ever get annoyed
Look at me I’m self-employed
