On hcgtv, I used to have a photo gallery.
In two years, it grew to over 5,000 images and it became a bit of a bear to deal with. The technical explanation is that you can’t have more than 5,000 files in a directory and all the generated thumbnails were being placed into one folder.
When I moved my sites to the VPS, I decided to hold off on moving the gallery until this was resolved. The software that I use on my gallery is called singapore and Tamlyn is hard at work on addressing this issue.
While I wait, I’ve been checking out the new kids on the block, Plogger and Zenphoto. Though they offer some nice features, they too suffer from the dreaded thumbnails in one directory flaw.
