It was time to blow and mow.
Took a break from biking and directed my energies towards the yard. My third fall season in the Charlotte area and I’ve got the lay of the leaves. Blow them over there, pass the mulching mower over them, repeat. The trick is not to let the leaves pile up too high or else you need to put monster truck tires on the lawn mower. So I attack the yard often, usually it’s my off the bike days, that way I’m active every day of the week.
My grandfather taught me that, to stay active. We used to do the yard together, I would mow the lawn and he would do the edges with a large machete. There he was on his knees, large cigar clenched in his teeth, happy as can be, loving the soil, loving to toil.
Well, the sun’s not so hot in the sky today
And you know I can see summertime slipping on away
